What is Title IX?
Title IX is a comprehensive federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any federally funded education program or activity. The principal objective of Title IX is to avoid the use of federal money to support sex discrimination in education programs and to provide individual citizens effective protection against those practices. Title IX applies, with a few specific exceptions, to all aspects of federally funded education programs or activities. In addition to traditional educational institutions such as colleges, universities, and elementary and secondary schools, Title IX also applies to any education or training program operated by a recipient of federal financial assistance.
Title IX is a federal civil rights law passed as part of the Education Amendments of 1972. This law protects people from discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that receive Federal financial assistance. Title IX states that: “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex characteristics, sex stereotypes, pregnancy or related conditions, sexual orientation or gender identification and prohibits sex-based harassment in educational programs or activities receiving federal financial assistance.”

National Domestic Violence Hotline – Available 24 hours, the National Domestic Violence Hotline works to educate and support victims of domestic abuse. The site includes information on domestic violence and includes resources for the deaf.

Office on Violence Against Women – An office of the U.S Department of Justice, the website provides links to laws and regulations, statistical publications, and other online resources. Also includes a summary of the criminal provisions of the Violence Against Women Act of 1994.
After Silence – Founded in 2003, After Silence offers support to victims of rape and sexual abuse. The site also hosts message boards and chat rooms for victims. After Silence’s website is also available in Spanish at: http://www.aftersilence.org/espanol.php.
Pandora’s Project– a non-profit organization that supports victims of rape and sexual abuse. The site offers peer support via chat rooms and message boards. Additionally, the site hosts a lending library including articles and other resources regarding sexual violence. Where Can I Find the Complete Policy and Procedure?
Any person may report sex based discrimination, including sex based harassment, in person, by mail, by telephone, or by electronic mail, using the contact information for the Title IX Coordinator. Such a report may be made at any time (including during non-business hours) by using the telephone number or electronic mail address, or by mail to the office address listed for the Title IX Coordinator.

Investigation Process
About the Investigation
- Upon receipt of a complaint the Title IX Coordinator shall assign the complaint to an investigator.
- The investigator shall meet with Complainant and determine if the College has jurisdiction.
- The investigator shall interview the complainant, respondent and witnesses identified by either party and review evidence provided by either party.
- The investigator shall create an investigative report that fairy summarizes relevant evidence and provide the opportunity for both parties to review and respond to the evidence.
- To determine credibility he investigator shall share the record of meetings with the opposing parties and each party is permitted to pose questions that the investigator will then ask in follow-up meetings.
- The investigator shall issue a written final report indicating a determination of responsible or not responsible and identify sanctions if respondent is found responsible. The report will be issued to both parties simultaneously.
Investigation Time-Frame
Every effort will be made to conclude the investigation of a Title IX investigation within 45 days of a complaint being filed. Temporary delays for limited extension of the timeline shall be permitted for good cause with written notice to the complainant and the respondent of the delay or extension and reasons for the action. Good cause may include considerations such as the absence of a party, a party’s advisor, or a witness; concurrent law enforcement activity; or the need for language assistance or accommodation of disabilities.

Pregnancy and Pregnancy Related Conditions
Any college employee must promptly notify the Title IX Coordinator if a student informs the employee of the student’s pregnancy or related condition. A student may also report a pregnancy or pregnancy related condition directly to the Title IX Coordinator. The Title IX Coordinator or designed will contact the student and explain that the college will provide reasonable modifications and/or supportive measures, if needed, to support the pregnant/postpartum student’s continued access to the college’s program/activity to their unique situation.
